Gold King Mine 9/29/15 Adit Sampling Results
Due to constituent concerns, the Board of County Commissioners requested that additional sampling of certain non-metal and radionuclide occur at the adit of the Gold King Mine. Specifically, the Board was interested in learning about the presence and levels of nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, Total Kjeldahl, cyanide, chromium, dioxins and furans, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), uranium and radium. Two separate sampling events occurred. On September 21, 2015 the EPA collected a split sample and on September 29, 2015, La Plata County collected a sample. None of the water quality analytes were detected with the exception of radium 226, radium 228 and uranium. A narrative explanation of the results and the actual results may be found below.
