Commissioners appoint Chuck Stevens as County Manager

The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners is pleased to announce the appointment of Chuck Stevens as La Plata County Manager.  Stevens has been assistant county manager since October 2017, and has served as interim county manager since January. He previously was applications manager in the county’s Information Technology Department.  Prior to joining the La Plata County team, Stevens served in the United States Marine Corps with distinction for 25 years.

As a senior leader in the Marine Corps, Stevens managed complex organizations and supervised large numbers of staff in a variety of roles.  He was recognized as a “Top Tech Executive” by San Diego Magazine for providing innovative leadership and has also been honored as the Distance Education Instructor of the Year for the Marine Corps College of Distance Education and Training. 

Stevens earned a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Arts in Business Communication from Jones International University.  He has continued his studies in leadership development through Stanford University. 

“We are impressed with Chuck’s exceptional leadership and communication skills,” said Julie Westendorff, chair of the Board of County Commissioners.  “He knows our county organization and our community and brings many years of management experience to the position.”

Stevens will be assuming his new role on April 23.
